 What Is Eriacta?
Eriacta, whose generic name is Sildenafil Citrate, is one of the primary drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction is a condition where a man is unable to attain an erect penis that will be enough for sexual penetration and satisfaction. With the help of Eriacta, this problem is given an effective solution: it helps in achieving erection and maintain it for a period of time.
How Does Eriacta Work?
When the pill is taken, the first structure that its chemicals and ingredients target is the corpus cavernosum. These are the columns of erectile tissue at both sides of the penis that produce an erection when filled with blood. Receptors are then released and triggers smooth muscle relaxation, after which vasodilation follows. Vasodilation is the widening of veins and arteries thereby increasing the blood flow. When blood flow is increased in the penis, especially in the structures of the corpus cavernosum and the spongy tissue called corpus spongiosum, erection is made possible.
How to Take Eriacta?
It is wise to consult your doctor prior to taking Eriacta for the proper dosages to take. However, one Eriacta tablet is generally taken 30 minutes to an hour before the sexual activity. It comes in 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg tablets. Doctors initially prescribe the 50mg for starters. Any unwanted adverse effects can be easily prevented if one avoids taking the pill more than once within a 24-hour count.
What Are the Side Effects of Eriacta?
The common side effects of Eriacta include:
- Anterior ischemic optic neuropathy
- Blurred vision
- Cyanopsia (vision makes everything appear as colored blue)
- Dyspepsia
- Flushing
- Headache
- Nasal congestion
- Photophobia
The more serious side effects of the medication include:
- Increased intraocular pressure
- Myocardial infarction
- Priapism (painful penile erection)
- Sudden hearing loss
- Ventricular arrhythmias
What Should I Discuss with My Doctor Before Taking Eriacta?
- Medications. If you are currently taking other medications, inform your doctor about it. Drugs such as nitrates, nitroglycerin, nitric oxide donors, amyl nitrite, organic nitrites, and sodium nitroprusside are strictly contraindicated with the intake of Eriacta.
- Cardiac Problems. Some men are not advised to engage in sexual intercourse with or without any medications due to some cardiovascular risk factors.
- Liver Disorders. Eriacta's drug components are primarily metabolized by liver enzymes and excreted in both kidneys and liver. If there are any existing liver problems, then Eriacta may not be prescribed because of the complications that may arise due to unreliable drug metabolism and excretion.
- Renal Impairment. As mentioned earlier, excretion of metabolites from Eriacta is via the kidney and liver. If there are renal problems present, this may lead to excretion problems that may pose health dangers to the person taking it.
- Recent Heart Attack. One of Eriacta's primary functions was to address cardiac problems. If you just had a recent stroke, chances are they might worsen the condition.
- Retinal Disorders. Eriacta decreases blood flow to the optic nerve, which may cause sudden vision loss. If you already have retinal problems, then you have the biggest chance of impairing your vision, or worse, suffer from permanent loss of vision.
What Should I Avoid While Taking Eriacta?
- Avoid taking other drugs that treat impotence. Examples of these drugs are Yodoxin and Caverject, whose components may have interactions with Eriacta's components that will double the risk of you having dangerous side effects.
- Avoid drinking alcohol. This increases the side effects of Eriacta and can later lead to worse complications. Alcohol also affects the metabolism of the drug, which may lead to unreliable effects.
- Avoid drinking blood-clotting agents. Taking Eriacta with heparin or aspirin may actually worsen bleeding tendencies.
